After browsing for news, seeing the world from my computer screen from another person’s perspective, and becoming overwhelmed with the amount of content we are exposed to and consume by choice. I decided to post an editorial piece which hopefully can help someone.

This idea began when traveling for work and my colleague Rosey and I discussed financial knowledge. Rosey is a firm advocate of knowledge sharing, and when running a publicly listed company, allowed her staff to learn new skills, challenge themselves and grow. You have to love a leader who values their team enough to promote development of that PERSON. I proposed to Rosey the idea of starting a financial knowledge sharing platform and this article is our first step!

A little bit about me, I am not a financial professional, I am a financial student and always will be. There is no way to know everything, all-the-time, about money, banking, investments, or every aspect of finance because it changes. That being said, the first bit of sharing I have are websites that help me stay current with information about those changes, such as laws and rules, rates, possible opportunities, and strategies. Many countries offer financial learning programs; I did a few Google searches by country name and most had financial literacy, education, and websites.

We are very fortunate in Malaysia to have a plethora of financial learning programs. The government offers from the Finance and Taxation site, Managing Your Money at MyMalaysia. A great site because it is straightforward and easy to navigate, subjects to start with are Financial Planning and Obtaining Financial Education. This resource provides an easy-to-read basics about investing, loans, credit, taxation, disputes, bankruptcy and a question and answer section.

The Bursa Malaysia Knowledge Center, is my go to site for quality articles about Malaysian stocks. Articles about “Understanding the Share Market” to “Value Investing in Equities Principles”, news about list companies and programs for young people (or old, I played the games!). Bursa Malaysia has done an outstanding job!

A website that aggregates current information about credit cards, personal loans, online trading, savings accounts, and credit scores, that is Ringgit Plus. Their blog is a wealth of information about Malaysian companies’ current events, corporate actions, and news. I am using Ringgit Plus for a credit card search; points or cash back with information and data protection and an app that is user-friendly. Ringgit Plus is the tool we all need to make our finance life so much more efficient.

I truly hope this helps you. Money is a means to living and we need to be aware of it, just like we are aware of a grumbling tummy when you are hungry, you eat. Feed your finance hunger or maybe just snack. I once asked a young person why he picked a fixed-deposit from his bank, when there were other higher paying choices, and his response was “scared of losing my money in more aggressive deposits”. With a little coaxing, he researched the higher investments and now earns more, once he understood the way it works. Best wishes to you on your financial knowledge acquisition and thank you for taking the time to read this!
