In December, Hektar brought its Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) commitments to life through two staff-led volunteering initiatives aligned with selected United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”). From city streets to coastal shores, employees stepped forward to support food security for underserved communities and contribute to environmental conservation efforts, reflecting the Group’s belief that lasting impact is built through consistent, hands-on engagement.

Nourishing Communities, One Meal at a Time

On 20 December 2025, 25 Hektar employees volunteered alongside Kechara Soup Kitchen, supporting SDG 1 No Poverty and SDG 2 Zero Hunger. Working alongside Kechara’s experienced coordinators, Hektar employees helped prepare, pack and distribute 365 sets of warm meals, reaching individuals and families in need across Jalan Imbi, Medan Tuanku and Pudu during one meaningful evening of service.

Beyond the logistics of food preparation and distribution, the experience offered volunteers a deeper understanding of urban food insecurity and the diverse challenges faced by underserved communities. Each location presented its own realities, allowing participants to engage meaningfully with beneficiaries while contributing time, care and compassion in a structured and respectful environment.

For many, the experience served as a powerful reminder that access to a warm meal can offer more than nourishment It provides comfort and a moment of human connection.

Protecting Our Coastlines Through Collective Action

Earlier in the month, on 13 December 2025, Hektar’s team turned their attention to environmental stewardship through a beach clean-up initiative in collaboration with myCleanBeach, supporting SDG 13 Climate Action and SDG 14 Life Below Water.

Held along the Kuala Selangor coastline, the initiative brought together 50 volunteers, who collectively removed 498.5 kilograms of waste from the beach. The clean-up revealed a stark snapshot of marine pollution, with waste collected comprising 292.4 kilograms of general waste, 134.1 kilograms of plastic, 40 kilograms of large discarded items, 24 kilograms of tin and metal, and 8 kilograms of glass.

The activity not only improved coastal conditions but also reinforced the importance of responsible waste management and everyday choices that affect marine ecosystems. Through hands-on participation, volunteers gained a greater appreciation for the role individuals and organisations play in protecting the natural environment.

Zainal Iskandar, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hektar Asset Management, said, “At Hektar REIT, our sustainability commitment goes beyond our assets; it is also about showing up for the communities we serve. Whether it is removing nearly 500 kilograms of waste from our coastline or supporting meal distribution efforts in the city, these initiatives reflect our belief that real impact is created through consistent, hands-on action. I am proud of our teams for stepping forward with empathy and purpose, and we will continue to build a culture where community engagement is part of how we operate and grow.”

These December initiatives form part of Hektar REIT’s broader environmental and social agenda, anchored by practical programmes that encourage employee participation, strengthen community partnerships, and deliver tangible outcomes.

Looking ahead, Hektar REIT remains committed to advancing initiatives that support stronger communities and a healthier environment, while continuing to embed sustainability into its day-to-day operations and long-term priorities.
