Citaglobal’s LAWI Engineering Strengthens Southeast Asia footprint with New Thai waste-to-energy contract

LAWI Germany and its consortium partner secure RM52.1 million contract from Siam Power Co. Ltd

Citaglobal Berhad (“Citaglobal” or “the Group”) today announced that LAWI Engineering GmbH (“LAWI Germany”), a 55%-owned entity of the Group’s subsidiary, Citaglobal Environment Management Sdn Bhd, has secured an engineering and equipment supply contract worth approximately RM29.0 million for the Siam Power Naklang waste-to-energy project in Thailand, further strengthening its project portfolio in Southeast Asia.

The award is part of a RM52.1 million contract from Siam Power Co., Ltd. (“Siam Power”) to a consortium comprising LAWI Germany and its consortium partner for the engineering, procurement and construction of the project’s steam boiler plant and basic engineering for the technology component of the overall WTE power plant. LAWI Germany will undertake the imported engineering and equipment supply scope, valued at approximately RM29.0 million (EUR6.33 million). The consortium partner will undertake the local scope, valued at approximately RM23.1 million (THB189.6 million). The contract values exclude applicable taxes and duties.

The contract builds on LAWI Germany’s track record in Thailand, which includes supplying waste-to-energy boiler systems for projects in Ayutthaya and Saraburi. Since its founding in 1996, LAWI Germany has completed more than 50 biomass and waste-to-energy power plant projects, the majority of them in Thailand.

Thye Chee How, CEO of Citaglobal Environment Management, said:

“LAWI’s technology is already operating in power plants across Thailand. The Siam Power contract builds on that experience, bringing its combustion technology and boiler engineering to another waste-to-energy project.

“For Citaglobal, our investment in LAWI gives us a stake in a technology business with an established regional track record. Its proprietary systems and engineering expertise provide a strong platform for our Environment business to pursue further opportunities across Southeast Asia.”

The plant, located in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, is designed to process up to 500 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day and generate approximately 9.9 MW of electricity.

LAWI Germany will undertake overall engineering and project management of the EtaPlant® boiler island and will supply its proprietary EtaComb® Advance S combustion and EtaLogic® process optimisation systems.

The boiler island is scheduled to begin commercial operations within 13 months of the effective date of the Letter of Award and Notice to Proceed. LAWI Germany’s scope is expected to contribute positively to Citaglobal’s earnings during the contract period.
