Betamek Berhad (“Betamek” or the “Company“), an Original Design Manufacturer (“ODM“) and a leading player in electronics manufacturing services (“EMS”) for the automotive industry, today marked a significant milestone with the official launch of its new Research & Development (“R&D”) Centre in Rawang, Selangor. The inauguration ceremony was officiated by YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Bin Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry (“MITI”) Malaysia, in recognition of Betamek’s contribution to advancing Malaysia’s automotive technology landscape.

The establishment of this state-of-the-art R&D Centre represents a key step in Betamek’s ongoing efforts to strengthen local innovation capabilities and drive next-generation automotive technology. Equipped with cutting-edge laboratories and collaborative workspaces, the facility is designed to accelerate research in telematics, IoT-connected mobility applications, and advanced sensor solutions, catering to the evolving needs of the automotive industry.

Betamek’s R&D expansion aligns with the National Automotive Policy (“NAP”) 2020, which aims to position Malaysia as a regional hub for automotive research, development, and innovation. By leveraging the latest advancements in automotive electronics, the new facility will serve as a catalyst for industry growth, fostering collaboration with key stakeholders, including automotive manufacturers, technology partners, and academic institutions.

Encik Ahmad Subri bin Abdullah, Chairman of Betamek said, “Today marks more than just the unveiling of a new building, it is the realisation of Betamek’s vision to drive technological excellence in Malaysia’s automotive sector. As we officially launch this state-of-the-art R&D facility today, we reaffirm our commitment to driving innovation, supporting Malaysia’s automotive ambitions, and making a lasting impact on the industry. This is not just a milestone for Betamek—it is a bold step forward for Malaysia’s journey toward becoming a leader in automotive technology..”

In his officiating address, YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Bin Tengku Abdul Aziz commended Betamek’s efforts, stating, “I would like to commend Betamek Berhad for its commitment to innovation and for taking bold steps towards strengthening Malaysia’s industrial capabilities. This facility represents not just a new phase for the company, but a larger step forward in Malaysia’s journey towards becoming a high-tech, high-value economy.”

As the automotive industry continues to transition towards connected and intelligent mobility, Betamek’s R&D Centre will play a crucial role in the development of advanced driver assistance systems (“ADAS”), vehicle connectivity solutions, and smart cockpit technologies. The facility is expected to enhance Malaysia’s ability to develop homegrown automotive innovations, ensuring local players remain competitive in a rapidly evolving global market.

As a symbolic gesture to commemorate the occasion, a plaque was unveiled and signed by the Minister, marking the official launch of the Betamek R&D Centre.

With this new initiative, Betamek reinforces its role as an industry leader in automotive technology, driving innovation and setting new benchmarks for the future of mobility in Malaysia and beyond.
